Environmental Laboratory

The laboratory is responsible for conducting environmental analysis and physico-chemical and chemical determination of contaminants in samples of:

  • Drinking water, industrial and domestic effluents, sources ( rivers, lakes, ponds, etc. ) groundwater and piezometers;
  • Soils;
  • Sediments / sludges;
  • Solid waste;
  • Biological tissues: plants and animals.

Sample collection, sampling, implementation of environmental monitoring programs and diagnosis are Environmental Laboratory activities.

Tests are performed with validated methods and international recognition as SMEWW - Standard Methods, USEPA, ABNT, and always complying valid laws.

Installed Technology

  • Atomic emission spectrophotometer with inductively coupled plasma source (ICP / OES);
  • Atomic absorption spectrophotometer;
  • Ion chromatograph coupled to different detectors (conductivity);
  • Other equipments.

Organic Chemistry Laboratory

The laboratory carries out chemical analysis of organic residues and contaminants in food "in natura" and plant and animal processed and environmental organic pollutants by liquid and gas chromatography, considering national and international laws.

Determinations are made about:

  • Priority Organic Pollutants (PCBs, phthalates, phenols, chlorophenols, PAHs, TPH, VOC, SVOC, pesticides);
  • Toxic algae;
  • Pesticides residues by LC/MS/ MS, GCMS, HPLC / DAD / Fluorescence, GC-ECD/GCMS;
  • Veterinary drugs and metabolites residues.

Matrices:

  • Drinking water, industrial and domestic effluents, sources (rivers, lakes, ponds, etc) groundwater and piezometers;
  • Soils;
  • Sediments/sludges;
  • Solid waste;
  • Food: ‘in natura’ (fruits, grains, seeds, meat, eggs) and processed (drinks, juices, pulp, dairy products and others).

Technology installed:

    • LC / MS / MS - Applied 4000 - Cliquid equipped.
    • LC / MS / MS - Applied 3200 - Q-Trap equipped.
    • GC / MS - Shimadzu QP 5050-A - headspace equipped.
    • GC / ECD - Shimadzu and Agilent

Methodologies applied:

    • Dutch method of pesticide residue analysis;
    • German method of pesticide residue analysis;
    • European Union Regulation (EU) - methodology validation;
    • Regulation (EC) N° 396/2005.

 

Physico Chemical Properties Laboratory

Physical, chemical and physical chemical studies in products:

    • Determination of active content ingredients in formulations;
    •  Physical and chemical properties determination of substances and products;
    •  Formulations stability;
    •  n-octanol/water partition coefficient;
    •  Fat solubility;
    • Studies on photodegradation.

 

Laboratory of Genotoxicity

Conducts mutagenicity studies:
  • Registry studies in accordance with GLP products, REACH and GHS.
  • Quality control studies in samples:
    • - Drinking water, springs, groundwater, piezometer, domestic and industrial effluents;
    • Soils;
    • Sediments/sludges;
    • Solid waste;
    • Substances and formulations.

Using the tests:

  • AMES "- Salmonella thyphimurim - Procariotic
  • " Micronuclei " - ‘in vivo’ - eukaryotic

 

Microbiology Laboratory

The microbiology laboratory is equipped to perform various tests when considering various laws (FARMACOPÉIA, ANVISA, MAPA, SMEWW-Standard Methods, USEPA).

  • Microbiological testing of water for human consumption, waste and food;
  • Efficiency of disinfectants;
  • Challenges tests;
  • Identification of pathogens;
  • Identification  protozoa: Giardia and  Chryptosporidium and others;
  • Identification and quantification of helminth eggs.

 

Ecotoxicology and Hydrobiology Laboratory

Ecotoxicological studies with aquatic and terrestrial organisms are used:

  • Control and impact assessment processes polluters of water, sediment, soil and solid waste (industrial and domestic);
  • Products registry in accordance with GLP and existing laws;
  • FISPQ - Sheet Information Security Chemicals. Through the studies:
    • Toxicity to bacteria - Microtox - Vibrio fischeri;
    • Toxicity to freshwater and marine algae ;
    • Acute  and chronic toxicity to microcrustaceans - Daphnia magna, Daphnia similis and Ceriodaphnia dubia ;
    • Acute and chronic toxicity to Pimephales promelas fish, Danio rerio;
    • Acute toxicity to organisms in sediment;
    • Toxicity to soil organisms;
    • Toxicity to soil microorganisms;
    • Toxicity to bees;
    • Toxicity to marine organisms (hedgehog, molluscs, crustaceans).

OTHER STUDIES:

  • Ecological environment risk evaluation;
  • Fresh-water aquatic communities analysis;
  • Limnological environment evaluation;
  • Environment impact by the release of effluent into receiving bodies evaluation;
  • Land, freshwater and marine tests.

 

Toxicology Laboratory

The toxicology laboratory is able to perform acute toxicity studies in higher mammals and non-target organisms. These studies are for products registry, REACH and GHS performed according to GLP - Good Laboratory Practice.

  • Acute oral toxicity studies to rats;
  • Acute toxicity studies with single dose Coturnix coturnix japonica (quail);
  • Acute dermal toxicity studies to rats;
  • Irritation / corrosion acute eye studies to rabbits;
  • Acute inhalation toxicity studies to rats;
  • Irritation / corrosion acute dermal studies to rabbits.

 

Radioisotopes Laboratory

Studies on degradation and transport of substances in aquatic environment and soil and for bioconcentration studies.

  • Immediate test of biodegradability;
  • Testing of mobility in soils;
  • Leaching tests in columns;
  • Testing of biodegradability in soil;
  • Bioconcentration studies in fish;
